According to an embodiment, an electronic device comprises a communication circuit, a memory, a camera, a display, and at least one processor. The memory may store one or more instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to: establish a communication connection with a first external electronic device via the communication circuit; use the camera to acquire a first preview image; acquire a first image corresponding to the face of a first subject included in the first preview image; acquire user information, including a face image registered or stored in the first external electronic device, from the first external electronic device through the communication connection; compare the first image and the face image and display, on the first subject included in the first preview image, the user information of the first external electronic device; receive information indicating an effect, for the first subject, determined by the first external electronic device, the information being received from the first external electronic device through the communication connection; and display, on the display, a second preview image in which the effect is applied to the first subject. Various other embodiments are possible.
