Abstract:
Disclosed is an electronic instrument that periodically executes, as background position-measurement, position measurement using a GPS receiver unit during the period of time in which the power of a battery-driven host device is turned off, and thereby achieves position-measurement speedup (hot start) the next time the host device is started up, wherein restrictions are imposed on the execution of said background position-measurement. For example, if the time difference (LDIF) between the point of time at which the power of the host device was turned off and the point of time at which the position measurement succeeded the last time is equal to or longer than a predetermined reference time (L1), or if said background position-measurement failed continuously over a period of time equal to or longer than the reference time (L1), said background position-measurement is prohibited from being executed anew because the next position measurement will inevitably be a cold start.
