Abstract:

An elevator provided with handrails on a cage. The handrails can be displaced between a standing position where the handrails are stood on the cage and a normal operating position lower than the standing position. A drive device for lifting/lowering the cage is disposed at an upper part in the elevator shaft so as to be superposed on the handrails in the vertical projection plane. During maintenance operation, a maintenance stop position detecting means detects the cage has moved to a specified maintenance stop position in the elevator shaft.
