Abstract:
If there is a change request to change from an operating range (A2) in which all-cylinder operation is performed to an operating range (A1) in which reduced-cylinder operation is performed, preliminary control is performed in which the air volume suctioned by each cylinder (2A to 2D) is increased so as to be larger than the air volume during normal all-cylinder operation, and the ignition timing of an ignition means is changed to be retarded relative to the ignition timing during normal all-cylinder operation. After completion of the preliminary control, reduced-cylinder operation is commenced, and during the preliminary control, at least in a partial operating range (C), the valve close timing of an exhaust valve (9) is changed so as to be advanced relative to the valve close timing during normal all-cylinder operation so as to reduce an amount of internal EGR gas.
