Abstract:
[Problem] To provide: an outer layer material for composite rolls for rolling, which is capable of enhancing the strength of a secondary eutectic carbide by reducing the amount of B in the secondary eutectic carbide, and which is thus capable of improving the surface roughening resistance; and a composite roll for rolling, which uses this outer layer material for the outer layer. [Solution] An outer layer material for composite rolls for rolling according to the present invention contains, in mass%, from 1.8% to 2.5% (inclusive) of C, more than 0% but 1.0% or less of Si, more than 0% but 1.0% or less of Mn, more than 0% but 0.5% or less of Ni, more than 3.0% but 8.0% or less of Cr, more than 2.0% but 10.0% or less of Mo, more than 0% but 10.0% or less of W, more than 0% but 10.0% or less of V, and more than 0% but less than 0.01% of B, with the balance made up of Fe and unavoidable impurities.
