Abstract:
An exhaust gas clarifying device for an internal combustion engine in which an exhaust gas clarification catalyst (11) for clarifying NOx under a lean air-fuel ratio is provided in the passage of an exhaust gas from the engine, wherein an alumina having a basic point on the surface thereof is used as a catalyst carrier (50) of the exhaust gas clarification catalyst (11), platinum (51) is carried on the surface of the alumina in a dispersed state, without the formation of a layer of an NOx absorbing agent capable of absorbing NOx, and an air-fuel ratio for the exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust gas clarification catalyst (11) is temporarily exchanged from a lean ratio to a rich ratio before the whole surface of the platinum (51) is poisoned with oxygen.
