Abstract:
An exhaust purification device (20) traps particulate matter contained in exhaust using a honeycomb structure (220). The honeycomb structure (220) has a plurality of cells (220a). The exhaust purification device (20) is provided with a sensor unit and an engine ECU. The honeycomb structure (220) has inlet sealed cells (220b) and feed through cells (220c). The inlet sealed cells (220b) are sealed at the ends on the upstream side of exhaust flow, and are opened at the ends on the downstream side of exhaust flow. The feed through cells (220c), which are disposed adjacent to the inlet sealed cells (220b), run all the way through in the direction of exhaust flow. The engine ECU determines a value for the estimated quantity of deposited incombustible components in the honeycomb structure on the basis of the physical amount detected by the sensor unit, and increases the frequency at which a regeneration process is executed on the basis of the increase in the value for the estimated quantity of deposited incombustible components.
