Title:
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1980/001987
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The extinguisher comprises a container with halogen hydrocarbons as extinguishing means and is adapted in such a way that the gas generated by heating over the boiling point is released from the container at a predetermined temperature. The container is adapted to open by an inner overpressure, and the halogen hydrocarbons which are poured directly into the container as solid or liquid are chosen so that the boiling point is equal to the above predetermined temperature. By this embodiment the extinguisher also functions as a thermostat and a means for opening the container.

Description:
FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The present invention relates to a fire extinguisher comprising a container with halogen hydro-carbons as ex¬ tinguishing means and adapted in such a way that the gas generated by heating over the boiling-point is released from the container at a predetermined temperature.

From DE-OS 2.246.614 such an extinguisher is known which is under no pressure when normally stored, with halogen hydro-carbons included in capsules of a thin, gastight material. The capsules which also include a foaming agent and water are placed in a container hung in the room which is to be protected against fire. When the heat developped by a fire reaches the container, this is completely or partly destroyed and the capsules fall on the floor. Due to the pressure developped in the cap¬ sules by heating over the boiling-point of the halogen hydro-carbons and/or because the capsules melt in the heat from the fire, the capsules open and the contents are released. According to the said specification the boiling-point is over 20 C, preferably 40 C.

According to the present invention it is suggested that the container is adapted to open by an inner over¬ pressure and that the halogen hydro-carbons which are poured directly into the container as solid or liquid are chosen so that the boiling-point is equal to the above predetermined temperature.

By the above embodiment the extinguisher - the halogen hydro-carbons - functions also as a thermostat and a means for opening the container. When the prede¬ termined temperature and consequently the boiling-point

of the halogen hydro-carbons is achieved due to the heat from a fire, the pressure in the container will rise as a consequence of the developped gas. The container will then open and the gas will fill the surrounding room and suffocate the fire in the well-known way by preventing the supply of oxygen.
