Abstract:

A fixing device (16) is provided with a magnetic-flux generating device (76), a first rotating body (71), a second rotating body (72), a fixing belt (75), a temperature sensing unit (78), a stoppage time measurement unit (8, 64), an abnormality determination unit (8, 64), and a heating delay unit (8, 64). The fixing belt is passed between the first rotating body and the second rotating body and heated by the heated first rotating body. The temperature sensing unit is provided downstream from the first rotating body in the rotation direction of the fixing belt, and senses the temperature of the fixing belt. The stoppage time measurement unit measures a heating and stoppage time before a heating initiation instruction is inputted. The abnormality determination unit determines whether an abnormality is present in the fixing belt on the basis of the rate of change over time of the temperature sensed by the temperature sensing unit after the start of heating of the fixing belt. The heating delay unit delays, by a predetermined time, the timing of the start of heating of the fixing belt by generation of magnetic flux by the magnetic-flux generating device on the basis of a heating initiation instruction, conditional upon whether the stoppage time measured by the stoppage time measurement unit is less than a set time set in advance.
