Abstract:
A focal plane shutter as recited in one embodiment is provided with: a substrate having an opening; curtains with which the opening can be opened or closed; a drive member for driving the curtains, which is able to move between a starting position and a terminal position, and is impelled towards the terminal position; a brake member that is supported so as to be capable of contacting and retreating from the drive member in the terminal position, and is impelled so as to come into contact with the drive member in the terminal position; and a setting member that rotates only in one direction and moves the drive member from the terminal position to the starting position. The setting member has a drive unit that comes into contact with the brake member, causing the brake member to retract from the drive member, and then comes into contact with the drive member and moves the drive member to the starting position.
