Abstract:

This foil bearing (10) is equipped with a top foil (12) formed from a flexible metal sheet, and when a shaft (6) is rotating, an air film is formed in a radial bearing gap (C) between a first bearing surface (A) provided on the top foil (12) and a second bearing surface (B) provided on the shaft (6), such that the shaft (6) is supported by the pressure of the air film. In this foil bearing (10), lubricant powder (16) is interposed between both bearing surfaces (A and B). The top foil (12) is partially elastically deformed in the width direction of the radial bearing gap (C) in accordance with the pressure of the air film generated in the radial bearing gap (C), thereby shifting reciprocally between a first state, in which a holding portion (17) capable of holding the lubricant powder (16) is formed, and a second state, in which the holding portion (17) disappears substantially, and shifting from the second state to the first state as the pressure of the air film increases.
