Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a friction material that can continuously reduce the generation of low-frequency noise and has good performance and high abrasion tolerance, said friction material being manufactured by molding a friction material composition comprising a binder, an organic fiber, an inorganic friction modifier, an organic friction modifier, a pH controller and an inorganic filler and to be used in a brake shoe of a passenger vehicle drum brake. To solve this problem, provided is a friction material composition that is free from any cleavable substance and comprises: as the binder, 8-12% by weight, relative to the total friction material composition, of a phenolic thermosetting resin; as the organic friction modifiers, 9-18% by weight, relative to the total friction material composition, of cashew dust and 6-12% by weight, relative to the total friction material composition, of rubber grains [wherein the sum of the content of the cashew dust and the content of the rubber grains is 18-25% by weight relative to the total friction material composition]; and, as the inorganic friction modifier, 4-10% by weight, relative to the total friction material composition, of aluminum grains.
