Abstract:
The present invention provides a friction member (such as a disc brake pad) which is reduced in weight by reducing the weight of a back plate, and which has improved durability after repeated braking. This friction member is specifically obtained by arranging a friction material (an upper layer material) on one surface of a back plate, which contains a material that has a lighter specific gravity than steel, with a lower layer material being interposed therebetween; and the lower layer material contains a binder, an organic filler and organic fibers in an amount of 30% by mass or more in total.
