Abstract:
Provided is a fuel pump with which volumetric efficiency can be improved. This fuel pump is provided with: a pump body (1) provided with a pressurizing chamber (11); a plunger (2) which reciprocates in the pressurizing chamber (11); a discharge valve mechanism (8) which discharges fuel in the pressurizing chamber (11) to a discharge chamber (87); and a relief valve mechanism (4). The relief valve mechanism (4) opens if the difference between the fuel pressure in the discharge chamber (87) and the fuel pressure in the pressurizing chamber (11) exceeds a set value, to return the fuel in the discharge chamber (87) to the pressurizing chamber (11). As seen from a first direction, which is the direction in which the plunger (2) reciprocates, the discharge valve mechanism (8) and the relief valve mechanism (4) are arranged with orientations such that the movement directions of respective valves (82, 43) thereof intersect one another. The relief valve mechanism (4) is disposed in a position overlapping the pressurizing chamber (11) in the first direction and a second direction, which is the movement direction of the valve (43) in the relief valve mechanism (4).
