Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a glass panel unit having a lowered thermal conductivity in the opposing direction of a first glass panel and a second glass panel. A glass panel unit (10) according to the present invention is provided with a first glass panel (20) and a second glass panel (30) positioned opposite the first glass panel (20). The glass panel unit (10) is further provided with a seal (40) that bonds the first glass panel (20) and the second glass panel (30) in a frame shape in an airtight manner, and a depressurized space (50) surrounded by the first glass panel (20), the second glass panel (30), and the seal (40). The glass panel unit (10) is further provided with a spacer (70) positioned between the first glass panel (20) and the second glass panel (30). The spacer (70) contains a resin material of a polymer having a molecular chain (71). Molecular chains (71) oriented in the opposing direction (91) of the first glass panel (20) and the second glass panel (30) are outnumbered by molecular chains (71) oriented in the direction (92) orthogonal to the opposing direction (91).
