Provided is a guide device for an elevator. The guide device can make a user aware of having boarded an incorrect elevator car when the user has inadvertently boarded an elevator car that is moving in a direction opposite to the desired direction. For this, the guide device is provided with a camera, a boarding detector, and an alarm. The camera takes pictures of the area around the entrance to an elevator. If an elevator car arrives at a stop for which a stop call in the direction opposite to the travelling direction of the elevator car is registered and the elevator doors disposed at the entrance to the elevator open, the boarding detector determines whether or not a user has boarded the elevator car from the stop, on the basis of pictures that are taken by the camera and are of the area around the entrance. If the boarding detector determines that a user has boarded the elevator car from the stop, the alarm disposed in the elevator car generates a warning.
