Abstract:
The purpose of the invention is to reduce wind pressure resistance of wind blowing against the side surface of a hatch cover when a ship is sailing, and to suppress hull instability and any worsening of fuel consumption. In a hatch cover (1) that is substantially rectangular in a plan view and placed on a hatch coaming (2) of a ship, wind pressure resistance reducing sections (3, 4, 5, 6) composed of inclined surfaces and/or ledges are formed in at least one of the four side surfaces against which wind blows when the ship is sailing. The wind pressure resistance reducing sections (3, 4, 5, 6) are preferably formed on all four side surfaces. The wind pressure resistance reducing sections (3, 4, 5, 6) are formed by a method for cutting the corners of the side surfaces of the hatch cover (1), a method for attaching additions to the side surfaces of the hatch cover (1), and a method for providing ledges between the side surfaces of the hatch cover (1) and the side surfaces of the hatch coaming (2).
