Abstract:
Provided is a headlight device in which a reduction in thickness, improved light utilization efficiency, etc., can be achieved. The headlight device (1) is provided with a low-beam headlight (10) and a high-beam headlight (20). The low-beam headlight (10) has LEDs serving as solid-state light sources mounted on an LED substrate (32), LED collimators (13) serving as light source light condensing optical systems for condensing light from the LEDs, light guides (14) serving as light-distribution-controlling light guides for receiving incident light from the LED collimators (13) and emitting light-distribution-controlled light, and projector lenses (11) for projecting incident light from the light guides (14). Each of the light guides (14) has an incident surface, multiple total reflection surfaces, and an emission surface, whereby a first light beam from the incident light from the incident surface is emitted from the emission surface without going through the multiple total reflection surfaces, and a second light beam from the incident light is emitted from the emission surface after being totally reflected multiple times by the multiple total reflection surfaces.
