Disclosed is a honeycomb structure which is easy to fill sealing material paste for sealing cells, and in which chipping or the like does not tend to occur, and which has a high aperture ratio. Specifically disclosed is a honeycomb structure consisting of a ceramic block which is constituted of honeycomb fired bodies in which a plurality of cells are juxtaposed in the longitudinal direction with cell walls interposed therebetween, and around the outer peripheries of which outer peripheral walls are formed, which comprises outer peripheral cells in contact with the outer peripheral wall constituting the outer periphery of the ceramic block, and basic cells located closer to the inner side than the outer peripheral cells, wherein the outer peripheral cells include deformed cells which differ from the basic cells in the shape of a cross-sectional surface perpendicular to the longitudinal direction; and wherein the deformed cells allow a circle of 0.90 mm in diameter to be inserted into the interior of the cross-sectional shape perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.
