Abstract:
The disclosed honeycomb structure (100) is provided with: a honeycomb structure section (4) and a pair of band-shaped electrode sections (21) that are disposed at the sides (5) of the honeycomb structure section (4). The electrical resistivity of the honeycomb structure section (4) is 1-200 Ωcm; in a cross section that is perpendicular to the direction that cells (2) extend, one of the electrode sections (21) is, with respect to the other electrode section (21), disposed on the reverse side sandwiching the center (O); 0.5 times the central angle of the electrode sections (21) is 15-65°; and in a cross section that is perpendicular to the direction that the cells extend, each electrode section (21, 21) is formed in a manner so as to become thinner from the center section (21a) in the peripheral direction towards both ends in the peripheral direction. The honeycomb structure is a catalyst support, also functions as a heater, and can suppress a bias in temperature distribution when applying a voltage.
