Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mechanical lash adjuster in which a retention mechanism for retaining a plunger in a housing is inexpensive. A lash adjuster (1) is provided with: a housing (3) having a closed-end cylindrical shape; a plunger (2) held within the housing (3) while the outer peripheral surface (9) of the plunger inscribes the inner peripheral surface (10) of the housing (3); and a retention mechanism (14) for preventing the plunger (2) from coming out of the housing. The retention mechanism (14) is provided with: a first groove (11) formed in the inner peripheral surface (10) of the housing (3) so as to extend in the circumferential direction of the inner peripheral surface (10); a second groove (12) formed in the outer peripheral surface (9) of the plunger (2) so as to extend in the circumferential direction of the outer peripheral surface (9) and so as to be located facing the first groove (11); and a flexible wire material (4) inserted into both the first groove (11) and the second groove (12).
