An identifying tool (30) comprises a plate member (31). The plate member (31) has facing portions (33)-(36). The facing portion (34) faces the facing portion (33). The facing portion (34) forms a notch (41) having a width of a distance (L1) together with the facing portion (33). The facing portion (36) faces the facing portion (35). The facing portion (36) forms a notch (42) having a width of a distance (L2) together with the facing portion (35). By using the tool (30), the size of the chain used in the escalator can be easily identified.
