Abstract:
Provided are an image capturing apparatus and method capable of capturing a high quality multispectral image This image capturing apparatus comprises: an optical system having three or more opening regions at the pupil position or in the vicinity of the pupil position, wherein each opening region is provided with a different combination of a polarizing filter and a band-pass filter, and each opening region thus transmits light with a different combination of a polarization angle and a wavelength band; an image sensor in which three or more kinds of pixels each receiving light with a different polarization angle are two-dimensionally disposed; and a processor that subjects a signal output from the image sensor to interference removal processing to generate an image signal for each opening region. The optical system has three or more kinds of polarizing filters. When the polarizing filters are ordered according to the polarization angles thereof, at least one pair of adjacent polarizing filters has a different polarization angle difference.
