Provided are: an image generation apparatus capable of preventing the occurrence of glare; and a head-up display (HUD) provided with said image generation apparatus. An image generation apparatus 24A for generating an image for a HUD is provided with: a first light source 111A; a second light source 111B that is disposed only a certain distance away from the first light source 111A; a lens 120 that transmits light emitted from the first light source 111A and the second light source 111B; and a display device 130 that forms light for generating an image from light that has passed through the lens 120. The lens 120 is composed of: a first region 121A that transmits light from the first light source 111A; and a second region 121B that is joined side by side with the first region 121A and that transmits light from the second light source 111B. The image generation apparatus 24A is further provided with a light-shielding part 144 for preventing the transmission of light from the first light source 111A through the second region 121B and preventing the transmission of light from the second light source 111B through the first region 121A.
