Abstract:
If the reliability of a defocus amount computed using a signal from an area (50A) is low, this digital camera expands a phase-difference detection area to cover more areas (50A, 50B, 50C). The defocus amount is then computed using the following: a calculated correlation between a set of output signals from pixel cells (31R) in odd columns in the aforementioned areas (50A, 50B, 50C) and a set of output signals from other pixel cells (31L) in odd columns; and a calculated correlation between a set of output signals from pixel cells (31R) in even columns and a set of output signals from other pixel cells (31L) in even columns.
