Abstract:
This imaging element is provided with: a first substrate including a plurality of pixels each outputting a signal based on charge obtained by photoelectric conversion; a second substrate including a conversion unit for converting at least a first signal output from a first pixel among the plurality of pixels and a second signal output from the first pixel after the first signal into digital signals; and a third substrate including a computing unit having a calculating unit and a selecting unit. The calculating unit calculates an evaluated value of a first image generated on the basis of the first signal converted into a digital signal by the conversion unit, and an evaluated value of a second image generated on the basis of the second signal converted into a digital signal by the conversion unit. The selecting unit selects, on the basis of the evaluated value of the first image and the evaluated value of the second image, the data of at least one of the first image and the second image for external output.
