Abstract:

An impact energy absorber, characterized by comprising a mechanism to absorb an impact energy by the movement of top face materials (3) and the compressive or deflective deformation of columnar bodies (2) caused when a long member (1) is deformed when subjected to an impact force, wherein the long member (1) of high strength material is disposed in such a direction as to be different from an impact force input direction and both end parts of the long member (1) are connected to each other through the top face materials (3) to cover the top faces of the columnar bodies (2) vertically installed apart a specified distance (L) from each other, whereby an impact energy characteristic equal to or more than that when the absorber is ruptured in axial direction can be developed even for impacts also from a wide angle ($g(u)) such as an impact from an oblique direction considered to be the weak point of a columnar energy absorbing member, and the device can be recovered easily by part replacement even if a damage is given thereto.
