Description:
INFORMATION DISPLAY SYSTEM USING ELECTRONIC DISPLAY PANEL Technical Field The present invention relates to an information display system using electronic display cells, which is capable of distinguishing a variety of information such as an advertisement, stock market situation, traffic situation, news, etc. from one another on a cell basis and simultaneously displaying all of the distinguished information on a single electronic display panel.

Background Art As well known to those skilled in the art, advertisement display panels are installed on the roofs of buildings to provide a variety of information to the public.

Such advertisement display panels are generally classified into two types, one being a videovision or cube box having a plurality of cathode ray tubes (CRTs) stacked in the form of cells and the other being a display panel having a matrix of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The videovision or cube box is disadvantageous in that it is high in price, for example, on the order of eight million won per cell and high in power consumption. Further, the videovision or cube box has a disadvantage in that its display panel is so large in volume that it is difficult to install and is subject to considerable restrictions by spatial environments. The display panel using the LEDs is disadvantageous in that it cannot provide natural expressions of moving pictures and colors and is low in resolution due to a wide spacing between the adjacent LEDs.

Disclosure of the Invention Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide an information

display system wherein still picture information or moving picture information is displayed at low power and a display panel is reduced in volume, thereby reducing power consumption, maximizing spatial utilization and making it easy to install the display panel.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an information display system which is capable of distinguishing a variety of information from one another and simultaneously displaying all of the distinguished information on a single electronic display panel.

It is yet another object of the present invention to provide an information display system wherein an electronic display panel is controlled using a public communication network to simultaneously provide visual indications of company information, public service information, advertisement information, general interest information, etc. to many people.

In accordance with the present invention, the above and other objects can be accomplished by a provision of an information display system comprising an electronic display panel having at least two cells, each controlled in response to data from a communication network to display a corresponding one of at least two information pictures.

Brief Description of the Drawings The above and other objects, features and other advantages of the present invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a functional block diagram showing the construction of an information display system using an electronic display panel in accordance with the present invention.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention With reference to Fig. 1, there is shown in block form the construction of

an information display system using an electronic display panel in accordance with the present invention. As shown in this drawing, the information display system comprises a communication network operating station 10 connected to an operation network 30 for transferring data through the operation network 30 in real time, and a wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20 connected to the operation network 30 for receiving the data from the communication network operating station 10 through the operation network 30. The data transferred from the communication network operating station 10 may preferably include company information, public service information, advertisement information, etc. The wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20 may preferably be any of a cellular phone, pager, set-top box, PDA, CATV, etc. A central processing unit 40 is connected to the wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20 via a wired or wireless network to receive output data from the wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20. A control unit 60 is connected by wire to the central processing unit 40 to control a plurality of cells 51 in an electronic display panel 50 in response to output data from the central processing unit 40.

The electronic display panel 50 is partitioned into at least two cells 51 arranged in a matrix form (NxN), each of which displays still picture information or moving picture information for advertisements. This panel 50 has a zoom function implemented in a software manner and can display information from a communication network in real time. The communication network may preferably be any of a radio network, TRS network, LAN, telephone network, Internet and the like.

A detailed description will be given of the operation of the information display system with the above-stated construction in accordance with the present invention.

First, the communication network operating station 10 transfers data such as company information, public service information, advertisement information, etc. to the wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20 through the operation network 30 in real time. Then, the wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20, which performs information transmission/reception functions, sends the data from

the communication network operating station 10 through the wired or wireless network to the central processing unit 40, which functions as a computer. In response to the data sent from the wired/wireless transmission/reception unit 20, the central processing unit 40 drives the control unit 60 for the control of the electronic display panel 50. The control unit 60 controls each of the cells 51 in the electronic display panel 50 in real time in such a manner that each cell displays associated information from the central processing unit 40. As a result, pictures of various information can be simultaneously displayed on the electronic display panel 50 so that the various information can be simultaneously viewed by many people.

Industrial Applicability As apparent from the above description, the present invention provides an information display system which is capable of displaying information in real time using an electronic display panel partitioned into at least two cells. The present information display system is small in size and power consumption, resulting in a simplification in installation and a reduction in cost. Further, the present information display system is installable in a small and narrow area and excellent in resolution, resulting in increases in advertising exposure and information transfer effects for improvements in enterprises'corporate images. Moreover, the present information display system can employ cells which would previously have been discarded due to faults of several pixels from companies manufacturing cells for the electronic display panel, thereby making the reutilization of products possible and strengthening the competitiveness of our commodities on international markets.

Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.
