Abstract:

A plurality of line heads (4) are arranged side by side in the direction of transfer of a recording medium (12). Each line head (4) includes a nozzle surface in which nozzles are arranged over the entire width of the recording medium (12). A plurality of purge units (5) are arranged side by side in a widthwise outer position with respect to the recording medium (12) and in the direction of transfer of the recording medium (12) to correspond to the line heads (4). During cleaning, the plurality of line heads (4) move to the position of the purge units which is widthwise outwardly of the recoding medium (12), with each purge unit (5) cleaning the nozzle surface of each line head (4).
