The present invention relates to printing using an ink jet printing device, and the objective of the present invention is to make it possible for high-quality printed matter to be printed without causing the user to consider an ink limit amount. First, an amount of ink per pixel corresponding to solid coating is calculated for each ink color on the basis of set printing criteria and adjustment data, and an actual ink amount table holding the calculated amounts of ink for each ink color is created (step S200). Next, an appropriate actual amount of ink corresponding to the set printing criteria is acquired from an appropriate actual ink amount database holding the appropriate actual amount of ink for each set of printing criteria (step S210). Finally, an ink limit amount is calculated on the basis of the amounts of ink for each ink color, held in the actual ink amount table, in such a way that the sum of the amounts of ink when printing is performed using an ink color distribution maximizing the sum of the amounts of ink equals the appropriate actual amount of ink acquired in step S210 (step S220).
