Provided is an internal combustion engine capable of effectively cooling an auxiliary machine. This internal combustion engine has: an engine side drive shaft 64 that is rotatably supported on an internal combustion engine body 40 and is rotated by rotational torque generated by the internal combustion engine; an auxiliary machine 100; an auxiliary machine housing 101 that is attached to the internal combustion engine body 40; an auxiliary machine body 102 that is supported on the auxiliary machine housing 101; and an auxiliary machine drive shaft 114 that is rotatably supported so as to be coaxial to the engine side drive shaft 64 in the auxiliary machine housing 101, and drives the auxiliary machine body 102. The internal combustion engine has a shroud 83 that covers a cylinder head 46, and a cooling fan 59 that sucks and introduces outside air into the shroud 83, wherein the auxiliary machine 100 is provided in the shroud 83.
