Title:
ION ADSORPTION MODULE AND METHOD OF TREATING WATER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/104004
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
An ion adsorption module equipped with a vessel having an opening through which water to be treated flows thereinto and a monolithic organic porous ion exchanger packed in the vessel, wherein the monolith is a continuous macroporous structure having cellular macropores overlapping each other, the overlapping parts in a water-wet state forming openings with an average diameter of 30-300 µm, and has a total pore volume of 0.5-5 mL/g and a water-wet-state ion-exchange capacity of 0.4-5 mg-eq/mL. In an SEM image of a cut section of the continuous macroporous structure (dry state), the area of skeletal parts appearing in the section is 25-50% of the image region. This ion adsorption module is effective in reducing the differential pressure caused by passing water and in keeping the length of the ion exchanger short even when the flow rate increases. The module has a high ion-exchange capacity per unit volume.
