Abstract:
An ion-exchange membrane method electrolytic cell having a coil cushion material interposed between a negative electrode and the conductive plate of a negative electrode chamber, and having the negative electrode contacting an ion-exchange membrane, wherein the conductive plate comprises a nonporous plate, and the expansion/contraction direction of the coil in the coil cushion material is positioned so as to be the same direction as the lengthwise direction of the ion-exchange membrane method electrolytic cell. The coil cushion material is configured in a manner such that a metallic coil body is wrapped around a metal frame, and it is preferable for the elasticity thereof to be adjusted to an average surface pressure of 7-17kPa. It is preferable for the negative electrode to be an electrode catalyst supported in expanded metal having the following dimensions: notch pitch = 0.1-1.0mm; minor axis = 0.5-5.0mm; major axis = 1.0-10mm; plate thickness = 0.1-1.0mm; and numerical aperture = 48-60%. This ion-exchange membrane method electrolytic cell has small electrical energy loss, can prevent damage over the long term, and can suppress increases over time in voltage and changes over time in current efficiency.
