Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system and a method for authenticating a user on the basis of iris information of the user, and the method may comprise: capturing an iris image of a user for user authentication; acquiring iris information from the captured iris image of the user; comparing the acquired iris information with reference iris information obtained on the basis of one or more pieces of registered iris information having been registered in advance for user authentication for the user; determining whether a matching degree between the acquired iris information and the reference iris information is equal to or greater than a first predetermined value; when the matching degree is equal to or greater than the first predetermined value, comparing a pupil size of the user, which is included in the acquired iris information, with pupil sizes of the user, which are included in the one or more pieces of registered iris information, respectively; and registering the acquired iris information to allow the iris information to be used for additional user authentication for the user, when the pupil size of the user, which is included in the acquired iris information, is: i) equal to or greater than a value obtained by adding a first threshold value to a maximum value of the pupil sizes of the user, which are included in the one or more pieces of registered iris information, respectively; ii) equal to or smaller than a value obtained by subtracting a second threshold value from a minimum value of the pupil sizes of the user, which are included in the one or more pieces of registered iris information, respectively; or iii) equal to or greater than a value obtained by adding a third threshold value to a largest pupil size of pupil sizes smaller than the pupil size of the user, which is included in the acquired iris information, from among the pupil sizes of the user, which are included in the one or more pieces of registered iris information, respectively, and equal to or smaller than a value obtained by subtracting a fourth threshold value from a smallest pupil size of pupil sizes larger than the pupil size of the user, which is included in the acquired iris information, from among the pupil sizes of the user, which are included in the one or more pieces of registered iris information, respectively.
