Abstract:
The invention renders a back titration and titer determination possible by means of a coulometric back titration. A titration flask is provided with electrolytic electrodes, and iodine is caused to be present in a solution filled into the titration flask. A coulometric back titration is performed to generate iodine ions from the iodine at the working electrode of the electrolytic electrodes. When the solution is a dehydrated solvent which contains a Karl Fischer reagent for use in volumetric titration methods, the titer can be determined by the coulometric back titration. Alternatively, when the solution is a liquid which has resulted from a coulometric titration in a coulometric titration method and in which iodine remains as a result of the titration, then the amount of the water contained in the sample is determined from the quantity of electricity used for the coulometric titration and from the quantity of electricity to be used for the coulometric back titration. Alternatively, when the solution is a liquid which has resulted from the addition of a Karl Fischer reagent in a volumetric titration method and in which iodine remains as a result of the reagent addition, then the amount of the water contained in the sample introduced into the titration flask is determined from the addition amount of the Karl Fischer reagent and from quantity of electricity to be used for the coulometric back titration.
