Abstract:
In this lateral distance sensor diagnosis apparatus, which cooperates with a lateral distance sensor (2) mounted on the vehicle (10), a drivable distance acquisition unit (F4) determines, on the basis of the distance detected by the lateral distance sensor and the current steering angle, whether or not there is a possibility of the vehicle coming into contact with a detected object, which is an object detected by the lateral distance sensor. If it is determined that there is a possibility of the vehicle coming into contact with said detected object, then the drivable distance is acquired on the basis of the distance detected by the lateral distance sensor. A diagnostic unit (F5) determines that the lateral distance sensor is not working properly if, maintaining the steering angle at which the vehicle and the object detected by the lateral distance sensor come into contact, the travel distance of the vehicle exceeds the drivable distance.
