Abstract:
A liquid crystal alignment agent comprising a polymer component, wherein the polymer component satisfies condition (i) and/or condition (ii). Condition (i): The polymer component contains at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyimide precursors having a repeating unit (a1) represented by formula (1) and a repeating unit (a1') represented by formula (1') and polyimides that are imidized products of said polyimide precursors. Condition (ii): The polymer component contains: at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyimide precursors having a repeating unit (a1) represented by formula (1) and polyimides that are imidized products of said polyimide precursors; and at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyimide precursors having a repeating unit (a1') represented by formula (1') and polyimides that are imidized products of said polyimide precursors. (X1 and X1' each independently represent a tetravalent organic group. Y1 represents a divalent organic group having an oxazoline backbone. Y1' represents: a divalent organic group (Ah) having an aliphatic carboxy group; or a divalent organic group (ph) having a phenolic hydroxy group. R and Z each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group.)
