Abstract:
PURPOSE:To lower a driving voltage and obtain a large contrast by specifying the angle of intersection of a rubbing process which is carried out for the two substrates of a liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:The angle of intersection of the rubbing process which is performed for the two substrates of the liquid crystal display element is set to >=90 deg. and <=100 deg.. When the angle of rubbing intersection is set to >=90 deg., a threshold voltage shifts to a lower voltage side with its torsional force and the voltage-transmissivity curve of the liquid crystal display element becomes steep. Consequently, a sufficient black display can be made with the same driving voltage as compared with a case wherein the angle of rubbing intersection is <90 in the positive display mode. Consequently, the driving voltage can be lowered and the large contrast is obtained.
