Abstract:

A liquid crystal device is provided with a PSBP layer (30) and substrates (10, 20). The PSBP layer (30) includes a liquid crystalline component exhibiting a blue phase, and a non-liquid-crystalline component, the non-liquid-crystalline component being localized more towards at least one of the substrates (10, 20) than in the center portion in the thickness direction of the PSBP layer (30), and the liquid crystalline component being localized more in the center portion in the thickness direction of the PSBP layer (30) than towards at least one of the substrates (10, 20).
