Abstract:

A liquid crystal device having a leakage current preventive function, comprises first and second transparent substrates opposed to each other, first and second pixel driving electrodes formed on the opposed inner surfaces of the first and second transparent substrates, sealer (56) provided between the first and second transparent electrodes, defining a liquid crystal injection region and defining a space in which liquid crystal is sealed, a plurality of conductive particles contained and dispersed in the sealer (56), non-pixel electrodes formed at positions covered with the sealer, dummy electrodes (40D) formed at positions at which the first and second transparent substrates covered with the sealer and opposed to the non-pixel electrodes, and a conductive light shielding film which is formed at least on one of the inner surfaces of the first and second transparent substrates and blocks unnecessary light in and around a display region. The dummy electrodes (40D) are divided by a plurality of slits. Separation slits which separate the light shielding film into a plurality of parts are provided at least in the portion where the light shielding film is laid over the sealer and its neighborhood.
