Abstract:
A first optical alignment film (12) of a liquid crystal display device (100) includes first and second pretilt areas (12a, 12b) for defining pretilt directions (PD1, PD2) reversely parallel to each other. A second optical alignment film (22) includes third and fourth pretilt areas (22a, 22b) for defining pretilt directions (PD3, PD4) reversely parallel to each other. When viewed from a direction normal to a display surface, the entire boundary (BD1) between the first and second pretilt areas overlaps with the entire boundary (BD2) between the third and fourth pretilt areas. A pixel electrode (11) includes first and second notched portions (11a1, 11a2) formed such that at least a part of specific edge portions (11e1, 11e2) in the outer edge thereof is cut out.
