Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal display element that prevents the occurrence of dropping marks during production without degrading various characteristics as a liquid crystal display element such as dielectric anisotropy, viscosity, nematic phase upper limit temperature, rotational viscosity (γ1) and the like, and burn-in characteristics of the liquid crystal display element, and has excellent high-speed responsiveness by improving the fall time of liquid crystal; and a method for producing same. This liquid crystal display element 10 is characterized by having a liquid crystal composition layer 13 sandwiched between a first substrate 11 and a second substrate 12, and vertically aligned film 16, 17 including a polymer of a polymerizable compound, the vertically aligned films 16, 17 being polymers of two or more polymerizable compounds represented by general formula (1), and among the two or more polymerizable compounds, one or more being a polymer being a bifunctional polymerizable compound.
