Abstract:
A dual type liquid crystal display unit which is simple in constitution and drive method, and provides a clear and bright display when an angle at which a display screen is viewed is inclined in a vertical direction of display screen. A plurality of ribs including upward ribs (621, 622) and a downward rib (623) are provided on the liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display unit, with a simple constitution in which each rib on an odd-numbered display line extends obliquely from upper left to lower right, and that on a even-numbered display line extends obliquely from upper right to lower left. When a display line on an odd-numbered line is viewed from an upper right direction with respect to the display screen, light along the orientation direction of liquid crystal molecules is obtained to permit a clear display; but when the same display line is viewed from an upper left direction, a dark display is provided or no display can be provided. Due to such viewing angle characteristics, the liquid crystal display unit can provide a clear, bright display when a screen-viewing angle is inclined in a vertical direction by a simple drive operation that gives right image data on an odd-numbered line and left image data on an even-numbered line.
