Abstract:

A liquid crystal panel (2) is provided with a pair of substrates (10, 20), and a liquid crystal layer (30) sandwiched between the substrates (10, 20). Comb-like electrodes (12, 13) are provided at least on the substrate (10) of the substrates (10, 20), the liquid crystal layer (30) is driven by means of a horizontal electric field generated between the comb-like electrodes (12, 13), and liquid crystal particles (31) in the liquid crystal layer (30) are perpendicularly aligned on the surface of the substrate when the electric field is not applied. When the width of the comb-like electrodes (12, 13) is expressed as (L), and the interval between the electrodes is expressed as (S), the following formula is satisfied: 0.33≤S/(S+L)≤0.64.
