Abstract:
The present invention relates to a high-strength and high-ductility machining magnesium alloy which can be heat treated at high temperature, and, more specifically, the purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnesium alloy which can be heat treated at high temperature even in the air or under a general inert atmosphere, and which has outstanding ignition resistance and thus can suppress the spontaneous ignition of chips, and which has outstanding strength and ductility, since a stable protective film is formed on a liquid or solid magnesium alloy surface by adding calcium (Ca) and yttrium (Y) or erbium (Er) to a tin-containing magnesium alloy which is a precipitation-hardening high-strength alloy. The magnesium alloy according to the present invention contains 4 to 10 weight % of tin (Sn), 0.05 to 1.0 weight % of calcium (Ca), 0.1 to 2 weight % of at least one element selected from yttrium (Y) and erbium (Er), and a balance of unavoidable impurities and magnesium, and the magnesium alloy selectively further comprises 0.5 to no more than 6.5 weight % of aluminium (Al), more than 0 to no more than 3 weight % of zinc (Zn), and more than 0 to no more than 0.5 weight % of manganese (Mn).
