Abstract:
 The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing toughened glass by clamping, between a lower mold ring and an upper mold, a glass sheet that has been heated to a prescribed temperature in order to bend the glass sheet into a desired shape. The method for manufacturing toughened glass maintains the effective cooling of the glass sheet after bending while allowing for an appropriately large depth of bending, and includes: a press molding step in which a glass sheet is brought into contact with a buffer member and press molded, after the buffer member has been interposed between the lower mold ring and the upper mold; and a cooling step in which the glass sheet, which was press molded in the press molding step, is cooled on the lower mold ring without being in contact with the buffer member.
