Abstract:
Provided is a high-precision mechanical structural member that has excellent quality and resists deformation. A mechanical structural member according to the present invention has grooves (32) and teeth (33) that have been formed by plastic processing and includes a hardened layer (31a) that is formed at the surface of the mechanical structural member by high-frequency quenching and has a uniform martensitic single-phase structure, a core region (31b) that has a sorbitic structure, and a boundary layer (31c) that is formed between the core region (31b) and the hardened layer (31a) and has a mixture of a sorbitic structure and a martensitic structure. The Rockwell hardness of the core region is 13–28 (HRC), the variation in the Rockwell hardness being within 6 (HRC).
