Abstract:
Provided are a media transporting device and inkjet printer that can continue to impart tension to a band-shaped medium for longer than conventional. A tension applying member (50) for an inkjet printer (10) can apply tension to a printing medium (90) by pressing a section of the printing medium (90) that is not wound on a winding mechanism (40) with a weight in the direction of rotation indicated by an arrow (10c) with an axis (50a) as the center. A transport control means generates power to a motor (44) for winding the printing medium (90) if the tension applying member (50) can no longer apply the prescribed force to the winding mechanism (40). The winding mechanism (40) applies a prescribed tension to the printing medium (90) by restricting torque with a torque limiter (45) when power is generated to the motor (44) for winding the printing medium (90) if the prescribed force on the printing medium (90) by the tension applying member (50) can no longer be applied.
