Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to prevent an erroneous determination that is based on an identification code recognized on a medium. During a deposit counting process, that is, the first half of deposit processing, a banknote deposit/withdrawal device of an automatic teller machine causes a banknote control unit to store serial numbers read from banknotes by a recognition unit into a banknote information list provided in a storage part and report the serial numbers to a main control unit as the processing result. In addition, during a deposit storing process in the second half of the deposit processing, the banknote control unit selects, from among the serial numbers stored in the storage part, the serial numbers of banknotes which are stored in a temporary holding unit and reports the selected serial numbers to the main control unit as the processing result. Consequently, the banknote control unit can reliably match serial numbers for the same banknotes reported to the main control unit during the deposit counting process and deposit storing process, thereby enabling an unnecessary abnormality handling process associated for example with misrecognition to be avoided.
