Abstract:
The present invention is an electrochemical cell in which a generation efficiency of no less than 40% is obtained even in a medium-to-low-temperature region of 700ºC or less, and a generation method in which the electrochemical cell is used. The electrochemical cell is configured so that: a fuel electrode having an interface with fuel gas, a dense ion conductor (electrolyte), and an air electrode having an interface with air (oxygen) are layered in the stated order; and that the fuel electrode and the air electrode are separated in a non-contacting manner by the electrolyte, and a functional layer having a porous structure for promoting an electrochemical reaction is layered on some or all of the surface of the fuel electrode, which is the interface with the fuel gas. The present invention makes it possible to provide an electrochemical reaction system in which gaseous hydrogen fuel is used, wherein the electrochemical reaction system dramatically reduces resistance caused by dispersion of the gaseous hydrogen fuel gas inside the fuel electrode, makes it possible to obtain a generation efficiency of no less than 40% at a single-cell level even in a medium-to-low-temperature region of 700ºC or less, contributes to resolving environmental and energy issues, and has a high efficiency.
